Is Your Child Struggling to Keep Up?
Let’s Talk About Why.

ADHD, dyslexia, and autism aren’t flaws—they’re unique ways of thinking. Spot the signs and build a strong foundation with us!

December, 2024

What used to be taboo is becoming more and more talked about and I’m so happy about it! I’ve been seeing more posts and videos on Facebook and other social media platforms that are highlighting ADHD, autism, and dyslexia.

These learning differences aren’t something to be fixed but rather something to be accommodated, just like if you need to wear glasses or contacts.

Because neurodivergent struggles are often outwardly invisible to others (because the differences of taking in the world happens inside of our brain) we have to be on the lookout for signs that our children are struggling to take in new information or fit into a neurotypical world.

Are you seeing any of these common signs for dyslexia in your child (or yourself)?

  1. Difficulty with Reading or Spelling: Frequent spelling errors, difficulty decoding words, or struggling to remember basic sight words.
  2. Letter and Number Reversals: Regularly confusing letters (like “b” and “d”) or numbers (like “6” and “9”) beyond typical development age.
  3. Trouble with Sequencing: Struggles to follow multi-step instructions, mix-ups in the order of letters or words, or difficulty with the sequence in a story.
  4. Challenges in Phonemic Awareness: Difficulty recognizing rhymes, sounds, or identifying sounds within words.
  5. Low Reading Comprehension: Can read words individually but struggles to comprehend the overall meaning of sentences or passages.
  6. Memory Challenges: Problems with short-term memory, especially around words, numbers, or directions.
  7. Avoidance of Reading and Writing: Feels frustrated or anxious around reading and writing activities and may avoid these tasks.
  8. Spatial Confusion: Struggles with directional orientation, such as confusing left from right or experiencing challenges with spacing in writing.

How about any of these signs that could point to ADHD?

  1. Difficulty Staying Focused: Struggles to maintain attention on tasks or conversations, especially during activities that are less stimulating.
  2. Impulsive Behavior: Frequently acts or speaks without considering consequences, or shows trouble waiting their turn.
  3. Hyperactivity: Often fidgets, moves around excessively, or seems restless even when seated.
  4. Forgetfulness and Disorganization: Tends to forget daily tasks, lose items frequently, or have a hard time organizing assignments or materials.
  5. Difficulty Following Directions: Challenges in processing multi-step directions, or easily becomes overwhelmed by complex instructions.
  6. Trouble with Emotional Regulation: Can display intense emotions or react quickly to minor frustrations.
  7. Inconsistent Performance: Shows strong abilities in some tasks but has inconsistent performance across different settings or subjects.
  8. Poor Time Management: Struggles to estimate time, prioritize tasks, or complete assignments on schedule.

At MN Learning Solutions, we use the Davis Method which focuses on addressing these signs through visual and kinesthetic learning strategies, helping children develop a more personalized and effective way to process information.

If these signs resonate, an evaluation with a Davis facilitator might be beneficial to determine the next steps for targeted support! Please reach out to us. You can just hit reply to this email. We would love to connect and see if we are a fit for your family!

“Auditory processing is essential for feeling safe, comfortable, and connected, and The Listening Program empowers individuals to strengthen this ability. When the brain processes sound more effectively, we can experience a greater sense of security and form deeper, more meaningful connections with those around us.”

What if the way we process sound could change how safe and connected we feel in our world?

For many individuals, especially those with autism, challenges with auditory processing can make everyday interactions feel overwhelming or even isolating. But The Listening Program (TLP) is transforming lives by helping people develop a healthy, balanced relationship with sound—bringing comfort, confidence, and deeper connections.

In a new interview, Kristin Selby Gonzales, President of the Autism Hope Alliance, speaks with Mandy Doman about how TLP addresses the crucial role of auditory processing in helping us feel safe and connected.

Kristin also shares a personal story about her own son, who began using TLP over 20 years ago, and still uses it to this day. It has made a profound impact on his life, giving him tools to navigate the world with more ease.
Here are some takeaways:
  • A Healthy Relationship with Sound: TLP helps individuals create a sense of calm by retraining the brain’s relationship with sound. For those who feel overwhelmed by everyday environments, this shift can be truly transformational.

  • Connection and Comfort: Imagine clients experiencing moments where they feel safe, confident, and connected to the world around them, maybe for the first time. You’ll hear moving success stories, including children and adults who have found new comfort in social interactions, unlocking connections that had felt out of reach.

  • The Journey for Families: Many families wonder how to begin. Mandy guides them through the starting stages of TLP, explaining what to expect and how quickly progress can unfold. For those new to TLP, this overview is both practical and encouraging.
